Going once a year between oil changes in Europe is considered normal and the notion that we change our oil up to 4 or 5 times is year seems nothing short of strange to most Europeans. Talk to people that have used specific brands of oils and ask them for an opinion. While visiting Italy in 2007 I never observed any quick lubes and I was in 5 different cities. When it comes to synthetic oil all the oil companies out there can make it since it is a man made product. European specs for passenger car motor oil has a much higher threshold to pass then oil here in the United States. it's up to each oil company to blend their own formula's. Talk to mechanics that have torn apart engines where the real proof is, this is where you get your real answer. Let's touch on that and see what the big difference is. As North America starts to wake up to what the rest of the world is doing consumers are making purchases of higher priced synthetic oil because of the numerous benefits. Where as here in North America the 3,000 mile song and dance is virtually all most have ever heard.
